Robotics company 1X has opened pre-orders for NEO, which it calls the world’s first consumer-ready humanoid robot, aiming to bring automated home assistance into everyday life. The company said NEO is designed to handle domestic chores and offer personalized support through artificial intelligence.
“Humanoids were long a thing of sci-fi… then they were a thing of research, but today — with the launch of NEO — humanoid robots become a product,” said Bernt Børnich, CEO and founder of 1X. “Something that you and I can reach out and touch. NEO closes the gap between our imaginations and the world we live in.”
According to 1X, NEO can perform household tasks such as folding laundry, organizing shelves, and tidying spaces on command. Users can assign chores via voice or a mobile interface, while a “1X Expert” service helps the robot learn unfamiliar tasks in real time. The company said NEO operates autonomously and gains new capabilities through continuous software updates.
Built on a new hardware platform, NEO features a tendon-driven actuation system designed for soft, human-like motion and safety around people. The robot weighs 66 pounds (30 kg) and can lift over twice its own weight. It also includes WiFi, Bluetooth, and 5G connectivity, as well as a built-in audio system.
The robot is now available for pre-order at $20,000 for early access, with deliveries to U.S. customers scheduled for 2026. A subscription option at $499 per month is also planned, with expansion to international markets expected in 2027.
