Apple Foldable iPhone Could Debut Alongside Future Flagship Lineup

Apple is expected to introduce its first foldable iPhone in September 2026, positioning the device to compete directly with Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Z Fold7, according to people familiar with the matter and a report from Bloomberg.

The device, often referred to as the iPhone Fold, is expected to be unveiled alongside Apple’s iPhone 18 lineup. While it is said to be slightly shorter and wider than Samsung’s latest foldable, it would open horizontally in a book-style design, mirroring the dominant form factor in the premium foldables segment.

Bloomberg also reported that Apple is developing a second foldable concept resembling a flip phone, similar in design to Motorola’s Razr lineup. The smaller device is described as being nearly square when folded and having an aspect ratio comparable to Apple’s Pro Max models when opened. However, the project remains at an early stage, and Bloomberg cited Mark Gurman as saying that “there’s no guarantee it ever ships.”

People familiar with Apple’s plans say the company’s decision to move ahead with a flip-style device will likely depend on the commercial performance of the first foldable model. Strong demand could encourage Apple to broaden its foldable portfolio and explore lower-priced or alternative form factors.

Bloomberg added that Apple is also considering a larger foldable variant that could expand the size of the secondary display from about 5.5 inches to roughly 6.5 inches. Designs for both the flip model and the larger foldable have not been finalised, underscoring Apple’s cautious approach as it prepares to challenge established foldable-phone makers such as Samsung and Huawei.
