Microsoft again reminded its users regarding the end of support for Windows 8.1 on January 10, 2023. The company asked users of the software to immediately switch to Windows 11, before the deadline arrives.
In its upload, Microsoft explains that devices with Windows 8.1 can continue to operate but are no longer supported by Microsoft for further problems. The company mentions what support will be lost if users are still using Windows 8.1 on their computer devices.
“Starting January 10, 2023, computers running Windows 8.1 will continue to work, but Microsoft will no longer provide the following:
- Technical support of any problem
- Software update
- Security updates or fixes
Although you can continue to use your PC running Windows 8.1, without continuous software and security updates, your PC will be at greater risk of viruses and malware. We recommend upgrading to a supported version of Windows. New devices running Windows 11 make for an easy transition and a great experience.”
Windows 11 is the latest software that Microsoft recommends to PC users. The company claims it is the most secure Windows ever made, with comprehensive security that includes antivirus, firewall, internet protection and more.
However, adequate devices are needed so that Windows 11 can run optimally. Reporting from Neowin (15/11), PCs have at least the latest CPU, not one that is more than six years old.
In addition, the end of support for Windows 8.1 also marks the end for Microsoft 365 (Office) applications and purchases in the Microsoft Store.
