Elgato has introduced the Facecam 4K, a consumer-grade webcam designed to narrow the gap between traditional webcams and DSLR setups. With a 4K resolution at 60 frames per second and the ability to mount standard 49mm lens filters, the device adds flexibility and creative depth previously unavailable in its category.
The Facecam 4K features a Sony Starvis 2 CMOS sensor and fixed f/4.0 prime lens, aiming to deliver professional-level image quality for streamers, remote professionals, and video creators. Elgato says the camera’s USB-C interface and onboard settings memory help streamline daily use, especially in multi-device environments.
A notable innovation is its filter ring, compatible with standard photography filters, allowing users to alter footage with effects like diffusion, glare reduction, or color enhancement. “You are also free to use third-party macro, black mist, and star filters to completely change the visual style of your 4K video,” Elgato said in its launch announcement.
While it lacks the low-light performance of Elgato’s pricier Facecam Pro due to its narrower aperture, the Facecam 4K introduces new software features such as real-time ISO and shutter adjustments, digital framing, and compatibility with Nvidia RTX’s AI background blur, creating a shallow depth-of-field effect without green screens.
Priced at $199.99 in the U.S., £179.99 in the UK, and €199.99 in Europe, the camera also integrates with Elgato’s Prompter device and is expected to support Nintendo Switch 2 with a firmware update. A complimentary circular polarizer (CPL) or privacy cover is available through Elgato’s online store for early adopters.
