DJI will launch its Mini 5 Pro drone globally on September 17, marking a significant update to its compact Mini series. The announcement follows months of speculation and leaks, with the company now confirming that the new model will be available to order from 12:00 UTC on launch day.
The Mini 5 Pro features a 1-inch camera sensor with a 24 mm equivalent focal length and f/1.8 aperture, a step up from the 1/1.3-inch sensor used in the Mini 4 Pro. DJI said the new camera can capture 50 MP images and supports a 2x or 48 mm in-sensor crop. “DJI has already confirmed that the Mini 5 Pro contains a new 1-inch camera sensor with a 24 mm equivalent focal length and an f/1.8 aperture,” the company noted in its teaser material.
Additional capabilities include 4K video recording at 120 frames per second, Night Mode, HDR and noise reduction. The drone supports ActiveTrack 360°, Waypoint, Cruise Control, advanced Follow modes, and LADAR (Lidar Assisted Detection and Ranging). OcuSync 4 Plus technology enables improved connectivity and range.
The Mini 5 Pro is designed to stay under 250 g, keeping it within lightweight drone regulations in many countries. DJI lists a maximum 36-minute flight time per Intelligent Flight Battery. The drone also introduces true vertical shooting with 225° gimbal rotation and omnidirectional obstacle sensing for enhanced safety.
DJI had previously been criticized for offering limited details ahead of launches, but this time provided a preview through teaser videos. The company did not confirm retail pricing, but the outgoing Mini 4 Pro currently sells for about $759 on Amazon.
