Pocketpair, the Japanese studio best known for Palworld, has announced it will publish an indie project titled Normal Fishing, developed by The Bworg. A demo of the game is already available on Steam, though no release date has been confirmed.

Despite its title, the game is not a traditional fishing simulator. Instead, it combines retro pixel graphics with psychological horror elements. Players are tasked with catching 20 aquatic creatures while navigating unsettling encounters, from warnings not to touch the water to the presence of a mysterious “godfish.” “Don’t be fooled: there’s nothing normal about this game,” Pocketpair said in its announcement.

A short trailer released on September 11 highlights the contrast between its nostalgic presentation and darker themes. The footage shows a woman sending her husband fishing to support her lifestyle, before morphing briefly into a monster, suggesting a more sinister narrative beneath the surface.

Normal Fishing mixes fishing mini-games with action, RPG mechanics and monster battles. While Steam Deck compatibility remains unconfirmed, the game’s modest system requirements indicate it will run on most PCs.
