Sega has confirmed that Sonic Rumble, its long-delayed multiplayer battle royale game, will launch globally in November 2025 on PC, iOS, and Android. The release marks the end of nearly a year of setbacks as the company sought to refine gameplay and address monetization concerns.
Initially co-developed by Sonic Team and Rovio Entertainment, the title was first teased in 2024 under the working name Sonic Toys Party. Originally slated for a winter 2024 debut, Sonic Rumble experienced multiple delays, including a canceled May 2025 launch, following internal feedback from closed beta sessions. Sega said the postponements were necessary to “address core gameplay systems” and ensure long-term balance.
In an interview last year, Sonic co-creator Takashi Iizuka said the development team prioritized stability and fairness over speed. “We want to deliver a long-lasting experience, not a rushed rollout,” he said. The comments followed reports that Sega and Rovio were working to remove pay-to-win elements identified in early builds.
The game, described by Sega as the “ultimate arcade royale,” pits 32 players against each other in colorful, round-based stages inspired by Fall Guys. Players will compete using toy-sized versions of iconic characters such as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Eggman through a series of escalating elimination rounds.
At launch, Sonic Rumble will also include crossover content tied to the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, featuring themed skins, stages, and post-launch cosmetic packs like Excalibur Sonic and Wave from Sonic Riders. Sega has not announced a specific release date within November.
