Developer Fathomlight, together with publisher Crytivo, has introduced its new survival city-builder Drownlight, launching the project on Steam on Nov. 4 with a trailer outlining its ocean-covered world. The game is set after a series of global catastrophes raise sea levels high enough to submerge entire continents.

Players take control of a small group of survivors who discover a lone lighthouse surrounded by open ocean. The structure is positioned as the centrepiece of the settlement and a key mechanic for survival, with the developers describing it as a vital beacon that must be maintained through scavenging and resource management to keep darkness and potential threats at bay.

Early viewers have compared the title’s tone and mechanics to well-known survival strategy games, noting its focus on harsh choices, environmental pressure and community management. Fathomlight’s creator has acknowledged the comparison as a motivating factor and said the team aims to meet expectations associated with the genre.

The project began as a solo effort developed during off-hours before additional contributors joined to support production. The studio has framed Drownlight as the creator’s first major step toward building games that emphasise consequential decisions and long-term survival challenges.

A public playtest is now running through Steam’s request-access system. According to the developers, the test is designed as a large-scale quality assurance phase, giving players access to core gameplay systems while some features remain incomplete or partially implemented ahead of a more refined full release.
