Shift Up has provided a new development update for the sequel to its action title Stellar Blade, indicating that work on the project is advancing alongside expanded recruitment across multiple disciplines. The studio said it is building what it describes as a “next-generation multiplatform action game,” prompting industry speculation that the follow-up may not repeat the PlayStation-first rollout of the original release.
The company stated that the upcoming title is intended for “various platforms such as consoles and PCs,” though the wording does not confirm whether the sequel will arrive simultaneously across systems. Stellar Blade launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive before reaching PC, where it saw rapid uptake. The press update noted that the game “enjoyed a huge boost after appearing on Steam,” achieving nearly half of the PS5 version’s more than 2 million sales within several days.
The shift toward multi-platform development comes as Sony’s own strategy remains under scrutiny. Recent discoveries, including a PS5 PC cross-buy indicator, have fueled discussion about whether Sony will ease its long-standing approach to exclusivity. Analysts remain divided, with some expecting the company to continue applying timed exclusivity to single-player releases, even as broader cross-platform initiatives emerge.
For Shift Up, the absence of a publicly confirmed publisher for the sequel has strengthened expectations that it may pursue a wider launch to maximize reach. The studio is still hiring for key roles, suggesting that production remains in the early-to-mid stages. Market observers note that by the time the game is ready, anticipated next-generation hardware—including a potential PlayStation 6 and a new Xbox console—could reshape platform strategy across the industry.

The sequel is expected to expand on the original title’s scope with larger environments and possible open-world elements. Director Kim Hyung-tae has previously indicated an interest in improving narrative depth, following discussions with veteran creators including Final Fantasy’s Naoki Hamaguchi, according to earlier reporting.
