The developers of Battlefield 6 have announced a complete overhaul of the game’s audio system following months of player frustration over inaccurate footstep sounds and other sound-related inconsistencies.

Since its launch on October 10, the title has drawn attention for both its cinematic gameplay moments and criticism of core design elements, including lighting, map layout and sound. Audio problems became more apparent when Season 1 began, with players reporting difficulties locating enemy footsteps and instances where footstep volume behaved inconsistently across different environments.

The entire in-game audio is receiving a full pass to solve those issues, including fixing some issues that caused some sounds to completely cut. We're still working on it and verifying the changes but hoping we can share more details on that soon!

Sound cues in Battlefield 6 are intended to play a central role in tactical gameplay. Sprinting, for example, is designed to produce louder footsteps, adding risk to close-range engagement. Players say those systems break down when sounds fail to reproduce reliably, affecting decision-making during combat.

Pressure on the studio increased on November 26 when Australian FPS content creator CAMIKAZE78 wrote on X, “For the love of all that is holy. Please fix the footstep audio in Battlefield 6.” Shortly afterward, Principal Game Designer Florian Le Bihan acknowledged the issue publicly and confirmed that the game’s audio system would be reworked extensively. Le Bihan said initial testing for the overhaul is already underway and that further updates will be shared when available.

Reaction from the community has been mixed. While the audio problems remain a major point of dissatisfaction, many players have praised the direct communication from Le Bihan. Comments responding to his announcement included calls for clarity on a delivery timeline as well as additional audio improvements such as adjustments to proximity and voice chat. Broader feature requests, including a ranked mode and enhanced crossplay squad systems, were also raised.

The overhaul marks a crucial moment for Battlefield 6, which continues to manage a delicate relationship with its player base. Successful resolution of sound issues may help restore confidence in the title as content updates continue through the first season.
