Speculation surrounding Half-Life 3 has resurfaced as an industry insider maintains that Valve may finally announce the long-anticipated title before the end of 2025. The series has become one of gaming’s most enduring mysteries, with no confirmation from Valve despite years of mounting rumours.

According to Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw, the current timeline provided by a source has not yet expired and could still result in a reveal this year. However, Straw acknowledged that he has been unable to find further corroborating witnesses for the claim. The original article notes that “the torture seems never-ending for fans desperate to hear Half-Life 3 news,” capturing the frustration of the community as speculation continues.

Straw suggested that Valve may be deliberately containing leaks. He compared the situation to the development of Half-Life: Alyx, stating that the studio reportedly provided different dates to various individuals to identify potential sources of information leaks within the industry. Reports have also pointed to an unusually high level of security during Steam Machine previews, fuelling assumptions that Valve wants to shield its hardware and software development processes.

I've been asked so much. The date I was told hasn't passed yet, though not being able to get at least 2 other people to verify it has me really thinking Valve did have multiple dates to "catch leakers".

Announcement date aside, source still believes it'll be announced this year…

Rumours place Half-Life 3 news within a narrowing window as Valve employees are expected to go on winter break by mid-December. With The Game Awards scheduled for December 11, many fans view the event as a logical venue for a major announcement, though no evidence has surfaced linking Valve to the show. Some analysts insist the company could instead choose a more controlled reveal on its own platform, similar to past announcements.

Straw further claimed that, if announced, the release target for Half-Life 3 may fall in Spring 2026, though he emphasised the lack of multiple independent confirmations. As in previous years, anticipation remains high, but expectations continue to be tempered by Valve’s silence and its history of closely guarding high-profile projects.
