Xbox Secures Exclusivity for Aniimo Amid Shifting Market

Fewer third-party studios prioritise Microsoft consoles

A new creature-collecting game called Aniimo is set to launch as an Xbox-exclusive title in 2026, standing out at a time when fewer third-party studios are committing exclusively to Microsoft’s console ecosystem.

The free-to-play game, which draws comparisons to franchises such as Pokémon and Palworld, was promoted by Xbox and is not planned for release on Sony’s PlayStation 5 at launch. This comes as rising console prices and softer sales have led many publishers to prioritize multi-platform releases or favor the PS5.

The exclusivity was highlighted in a social media announcement stating that “Aniimo is coming exclusively to Xbox in 2026.” The absence of PlayStation branding in the game’s trailer shown at The Game Awards further fueled that message, although the title is also scheduled to be released on PC via Steam and on mobile devices.

Microsoft has increasingly relied on its own franchises, such as Forza Horizon and Fable, to anchor its platform, while many third-party developers have shifted focus elsewhere. Several recent high-profile titles, including Phantom Blade Zero, have opted for PS5 and PC releases while bypassing Xbox consoles, at least initially.

Publisher Kingsglory has said it will conduct another beta test for Aniimo ahead of finalizing a release date. While the company has not ruled out a future PS5 version, the current plan positions the game as a rare example of a third-party title aligned with Xbox as Microsoft seeks to reinforce its lineup.
