Limited Run Games said it will revive the 1987 Nintendo Entertainment System cult classic Jaws with a physical re-release for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, bringing the shark-hunting game back to market nearly four decades after its original debut.
The new package, titled Jaws: Retro Edition, combines the original NES game—developed by LJN and inspired by Steven Spielberg’s 1975 film—with modern quality-of-life features and newly added content. The timing of the release is aimed at the movie’s 50th anniversary in 2025, the company said.

In its original form, Jaws placed players in control of a boat navigating coastal waters from a top-down perspective, shifting to side-scrolling harpoon combat and a climactic boss battle against a great white shark. Limited Run Games said the reissue will remain faithful to that structure while introducing enhancements such as save-anywhere functionality, a rewind option, achievements, and bonus materials.
The release will be available in two physical editions. The Standard Edition, priced at $34.99, includes a region-free copy of the game and an eight-page booklet. A collector-focused “Bigger Boat” Edition, priced at $99.99, adds items including an NES-style slipcover, a soundtrack CD composed by Shinichi Sakamoto, and themed collectibles.

Alongside the original game, the package includes an Enhanced Edition featuring a new multi-chapter mode that expands the narrative. According to the announcement, the updated version is “a ‘massively expanded’ overhaul, drawing inspiration from all four entries in the Jaws franchise.”
Pre-orders for Jaws: Retro Edition are scheduled to open on Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. ET through the Limited Run Games website and will run until Jan. 18, 2026. The company said the title is currently in pre-production and will not have purchase limits during the pre-order window.
