Metaverse today is not only developed by giant technology companies. Apparently, this trend is permeating the food industry, where McDonald’s is reportedly building its own metaverse so that customers can order virtually and food will be received in real time at their doorstep.
The fast food giant is known to have filed 10 trademark applications with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in February, Euro News reported (15/2). Submissions include virtual restaurants for McDonald’s and McCafe that can deliver food in both the metaverse and real life.
“Virtual Food and Beverage Products (NFT) operates an online virtual restaurant featuring home delivery,” the filing said. The company also lists entertainment services such as online concessions under the McDonald’s and McCafe brands.
According to trademark attorney Josh Gerben’s tweet, people can visit McDonald’s restaurants in the metaverse. Then, the food or drink ordered will arrive at the door.

Gerben told Forbes the USPTO would likely approve the application, although the review process would likely take 8 to 9 months.
To note, the metaverse is mostly used for gaming and is not yet fully developed. However, McDonald’s has already charted their position in this virtual reality world, following other brands such as Gucci, Walmart, and Nike which have also announced their plans to enter the metaverse.
