Sony has introduced which allow users to hear ambient sound, and it does so in a way that promises so that it won’t compromise the quality of the music listening experience.

The newly launched LinkBuds have a unique ring-shaped design with custom-made circular drivers for high-quality sound, and an aperture in the center for ambient sound.

Currently, many companies are presenting technology to reduce ambient noise, including Sony itself. However, the flip side of LinkBuds technology is called the ambient sound mode capability, which is designed to allow some level of ambient noise to be heard through the user’s ear.

This technology is useful when moving through a busy environment, or when users are traveling by train and don’t want to miss an announcement for their next stop. this is the kind of app that Sony had in mind with the LinkBuds design.

These earphones are designed to be small and ergonomically designed and weigh around 4 grams in total. Where many wireless earphones rely on soft tips to stay securely in the ear, the LinkBuds use a figure eight style design that pairs an open ring with a secondary loop meant to fit snugly inside the earlobe.

Sony promises 5.5 hours of use on each charge for the LinkBuds, with an additional 12 hours offered via the compact charging case. Meanwhile, a 10 minute fast charge will offer up to 90 minutes of playback time.

Another interesting feature is the so-called Wide Area Tap, which allows users to tap their ears to control playback. The price for is USD200.
