In 2017, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) grabbed the attention of the gaming community. This game offers a battle royale experience on a computer platform at a price of US $ 20 (Rp 278 thousand).
But now, Dave Curd, creative director of Krafton—the developer of the game—has confirmed that PUBG will be coming for free soon. “The PUBG game will be free to play for the PC platform,” said Curd, on Saturday, December 11, 2021.
The game is said to be free to play starting January 12, 2022. The platform is also ready for pre-registration and copies of the game will have most elements free, but some elements including ranked matchmaking will be paid.
Ranked matchmaking and other elements can be unlocked by paying a one-time fee of US$ 12.99. This fee is basically for making in-game account upgrades, and can unlock features like special match modes, special in-game items, and more.
According to reports, previously, PUBG was one of the most popular games ever with over 75 million copies sold. However, it looks like this game has lost an audience and to get it back, PUBG may have decided to make it free to play.
