Lenovo Confirms Compact Legion Y700 Gaming Tablet With 5G Ahead of August Launch

The upcoming Legion Y700 variant is expected to feature a smaller design, OLED display, and 5G connectivity as Lenovo expands its portable gaming tablet lineup.

Lenovo has confirmed that a new version of its Legion Y700 gaming tablet will launch in China in August 2026, introducing a more compact form factor and built-in 5G connectivity to its growing lineup of Android gaming devices.

The announcement follows the release of the latest Legion Y700, marketed internationally as the Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5, which became one of the first gaming tablets powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. While that model features an 8.8-inch display, Lenovo’s newest variant is expected to be even smaller, targeting users who prioritize portability without sacrificing gaming performance.

    Debut at Gaming Event

The upcoming tablet first appeared during the Shenzhen Nuclear Fusion Gaming Carnival, where attendees received an early look at the device before Lenovo officially acknowledged its existence.

The company later confirmed the new model through promotional material, revealing that the tablet will join the Legion Y700 family rather than replacing the current generation.

Although Lenovo has yet to disclose complete specifications, it confirmed that 5G mobile connectivity will be one of the tablet’s headline features, allowing gamers to access cloud gaming services and online multiplayer titles without relying solely on Wi-Fi networks.

    OLED Display Expected

The promotional image also offers a preview of the tablet’s front design. It features a centered punch-hole front camera, while the display bezels appear similar in thickness to those found on the existing Legion Tab Gen 5.

Industry expectations suggest the device will adopt an OLED display, marking a significant upgrade over the IPS LCD panel used in the current Legion Y700. An OLED screen would provide deeper contrast, improved color reproduction, and faster response times—qualities particularly attractive for gaming, video streaming, and multimedia use.

If confirmed, the display upgrade would strengthen Lenovo’s position in the premium compact gaming tablet segment as competition continues to grow.

    Processor Remains a Mystery

Lenovo has not yet confirmed which processor will power the new tablet.

The existing Legion Tab Gen 5 is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, delivering flagship-level gaming performance. However, speculation suggests Lenovo could choose a different platform for the smaller model, with a high-end MediaTek Dimensity processor also considered a possibility.

The final chipset selection may determine how the device is positioned within Lenovo’s gaming portfolio and how it compares with competing Android gaming tablets.

Competition in the Compact Gaming Market

The new Legion Y700 arrives as manufacturers increasingly focus on compact devices capable of delivering console-quality gaming experiences. Smaller tablets appeal to gamers seeking a balance between smartphone portability and the larger displays offered by traditional tablets.

The anticipated OLED display and integrated 5G support could help Lenovo compete more directly with upcoming rivals, including the RedMagic Astra 2, which is also expected to target enthusiasts looking for premium Android gaming hardware.

As gaming services, cloud streaming, and mobile esports continue to expand, demand for high-performance portable devices has grown significantly, encouraging manufacturers to introduce increasingly specialized gaming tablets.

    More Details Expected Before Launch

Lenovo has not announced pricing, memory configurations, battery capacity, or display size for the upcoming model. Additional specifications are expected to be revealed closer to its scheduled launch in China this August.

With a smaller footprint, potential OLED upgrade, and native 5G connectivity, the next Legion Y700 could become one of Lenovo’s most distinctive gaming tablets to date, offering gamers a compact alternative without compromising on flagship-level features.
