Apple has released the public beta of iOS 27, giving users early access to its redesigned AI-powered Siri ahead of the operating system’s official launch later this year.
The release marks the first time Apple’s new Siri has been made available beyond developers, allowing a broader group of users to test the company’s latest artificial intelligence features.
Siri Gains Deeper AI Integration
Announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, the upgraded Siri is designed to understand on-device content, including emails, messages and photos, while providing responses based on information displayed on the screen and broader web knowledge.
The assistant is integrated throughout iOS and can be activated using voice commands, the iPhone side button, the Dynamic Island interface or Spotlight Search. Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app, offering an interface similar to standalone AI chatbots.
The new Siri is also available across Apple’s ecosystem, including iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, AirPods, CarPlay and Vision Pro.
Powered by Apple Intelligence
The assistant is built on Apple Intelligence, combining on-device Foundation Models with Private Cloud Compute to process more complex AI requests while helping protect user privacy.
Apple said its Foundation Models were developed for Apple Silicon and created using proprietary data, while also incorporating knowledge distilled from Google’s Gemini models to improve efficiency.
Early developer testing showed improvements in tasks such as searching photos, summarizing conversations, managing calendar events and answering general knowledge questions. However, Apple noted that the beta software may still produce occasional errors or inconsistent responses.
The public beta is available ahead of the expected public release of iOS 27 later this year.
