Meta adds Stories not only to Instagram and Facebook, but also WhatsApp, which we know as Status. Through WhatsApp Status, users can share images, videos, GIFs, text messages, and a possible new voicemail option that the company is currently reportedly testing.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is apparently working on a feature that will allow users to record and share voice messages to their Status. The practice will probably be similar to voice messaging in a chat room, by pressing the microphone icon on the screen.
In addition, the voice message sent can also be a file that is already on the device. However, there is no evidence for this ability yet, as mentioned by Gizmochina (15/7).
Voice messages shared via Status for users’ WhatsApp contacts to hear will also use the same privacy settings as images and videos. It will also be end-to-end encrypted, so neither WhatsApp nor third parties can hear it.
WhatsApp isn’t the only one experimenting with Audio Stories or Status. Some time ago, Twitter was also reportedly testing the ability to post voice tweets on iOS. However, not everyone has access to these abilities.
Unfortunately, the voicemail feature for WhatsApp Status is still under development and cannot be used at all, even for Beta users. However, if general testing has started, Beta users will be the first to try this feature.
