Apple delays release of iPadOS 16 until October

Apple is rumored to be delaying the release of iPadOS 16. If this software is usually launched together with iOS, this year Apple is reportedly not going to launch both at the same time.

Since iPadOS was launched in 2019, this iPad software has come together with the software for iPhone, iOS. However, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, “people familiar with the matter” say it won’t happen this year.

While iOS 16 will still launch as scheduled, which is September, iPadOS 16 is rumored to be releasing in October. According to Gurman, the delay is partly due to some new multi-tasking features to come.

Gurman also said the delay would allow the iPadOS 16 software to be released alongside the new iPad lineup, which is usually announced in October. Rumors are circulating that Apple will release a new iPad Pro with an M2 chip. There’s also a new entry-level iPad planned for this year, with support for USB Type-C chargers.

Besides that, watchOS 9 for Apple’s smartwatch will launch in September, alongside iOS 16. The delay of iPadOS 16, according to Gurman, is not a bad thing. Because, this might make the features that are being developed function more optimally.

However, some features of iOS 16 may not work properly on iPad until iPadOS 16 arrives. For example, the Unsend Messages feature, iCloud Shared Photo Library and the ability to transfer FaceTime calls between devices.
