Ayaneo has disclosed new technical details about its upcoming Pocket Play gaming smartphone, marking the company’s first entry into the smartphone market after establishing itself with Android-based gaming handhelds.
According to information shared by Ayaneo on social media, the Pocket Play will feature a 6.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and a 165Hz refresh rate. The screen is slightly larger than that of the ASUS ROG Phone 9 Pro while matching its resolution, and the refresh rate exceeds that of some competing gaming phones currently on the market.

Alongside the specifications, Ayaneo released an image showing the device in use, highlighting design choices that differ from most modern smartphones. The image indicates a thick lower chin and a wide top bezel rather than a punch-hole cutout. As stated in the original article, “the display doesn’t have a punch hole for the front facing camera,” with the camera instead housed in the top bezel.
Ayaneo has said the Pocket Play draws inspiration from Sony’s Xperia Play, a device that blended smartphone functionality with gaming-focused design. While the company has not announced an exact release date, the Pocket Play is expected to launch in 2026.

In keeping with its established approach, Ayaneo has also opened a Kickstarter page for the Pocket Play ahead of launch, although the campaign is not yet live. Separately, the company confirmed it is still developing a gaming tablet called the Ayaneo Gaming Pad, but has not shared new details about that device in recent months.
