Ripple Effect, one of the studios behind Battlefield 6, has confirmed the game will not include ray-tracing technology at launch, focusing instead on performance and accessibility for a wide player base.
Christian Buhl, Studio Technical Director at Ripple Effect, said the decision was made early in development to ensure the game could run smoothly across a variety of systems. “No, we are not going to have ray-tracing when the game launches, and we don’t have any plans in the near future for it either,” Buhl said in an interview.
The move comes after lessons learned from the troubled launch of Battlefield 2042, which faced criticism for high system requirements and optimization issues. By limiting reliance on demanding graphical features, the developers aimed to improve frame rates and stability.
Benchmark tests suggest the approach is working. TechPowerUp reported that an RTX 5070 can reach over 80 frames per second at 4K, while mid-range cards such as the RTX 5060 can handle the game at 1440p. Even older GPUs like the RTX 2080 were able to achieve consistent performance in tests shared by players.
The franchise previously experimented with ray tracing in Battlefield V and Battlefield 2042. In contrast, the latest entry emphasizes smoother gameplay over advanced lighting effects, aligning with the fast-paced, competitive nature of the series.
