Electronic Arts said its long-awaited revival of the Skate franchise will enter early access on Sept. 16, 2025, marking the series’ first new entry in 15 years. The free-to-play title will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
The game, simply titled Skate, follows 2010’s Skate 3, which sold nearly 5 million copies across the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The new installment is set in San Vansterdam, an open-world city blending elements of San Francisco and Amsterdam, and will support cross-platform multiplayer and progression.
Electronic Arts said the game will feature four neighborhoods, each with unique skateboarding environments, and will continue to use the analog-based Flick-It System. Built on EA’s Frostbite engine, the title is being developed by Full Circle with an emphasis on live service updates every three months.
“Skate is not just a return, it’s a complete evolution of the franchise, that’s built to last,” said Mike McCartney, executive producer of Skate. He added that the team’s goal is to “capture the freedom, creative expression, and community of skateboarding, and share it with as many people as possible.”
Full Circle has been conducting playtests since 2022, incorporating community feedback into mechanics such as off-board controls and custom ramp placement. While the game enters early access this September, EA indicated a full release could follow in late 2026.
