Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup, xAI, is set to take its place within his social media platform, X, and will also be available as a standalone app, as announced by Musk in a recent post on Sunday.
The billionaire entrepreneur revealed that xAI has released its inaugural AI model, a chatbot named “Grok.” This AI bot has been made accessible to all X Premium+ subscribers since Friday.
The primary goal of Musk’s startup is to develop AI tools that contribute to humanity’s pursuit of knowledge and understanding. Grok, in particular, has been designed to answer questions with a touch of humor.
In a move driven by his concerns over the censorship prevalent in Big Tech’s AI efforts, Musk introduced xAI in July. He described it as a “maximum truth-seeking AI” aimed at comprehending the fundamental nature of the universe, competing with established entities like Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s Bing AI.
Musk emphasized the advantage of Grok, noting its real-time access to information through the X platform, a significant differentiator from other models.
It is important to note that while X, formerly known as Twitter and owned by Musk, and xAI are separate entities, they maintain a close working relationship. Furthermore, xAI collaborates with Musk’s electric car company, Tesla, along with other enterprises.
Musk’s profound views on the transformative power of AI were also evident recently when he expressed to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that AI is the “most disruptive force in history.” Musk’s speculations suggest that this technology has the potential to revolutionize virtually all aspects of human activity, potentially reshaping traditional employment paradigms.
It is worth mentioning that Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015, the organization behind the development of ChatGPT, a generative AI technology that has garnered significant attention globally. However, he stepped down from the board of OpenAI in 2018.
