Garmin has released Beta Version 28.01 for its Fenix 6, Fenix 6 Pro, Marq, Enduro, Quatix 6, and Tactix Delta smartwatches, addressing a critical issue linked to music controls that could cause devices to crash.
The update, which arrives just weeks after the release of Version 28.00, is considered a release candidate—potentially the last beta before a public rollout.
Version 28.01 specifically resolves a bug where using the music controls widget during an activity could cause certain smartwatches to shut down unexpectedly.
This issue was initially flagged by a user with an Enduro smartwatch and subsequently confirmed by Garmin. Despite additional reports from users about higher-than-expected battery drain following the previous beta update, Garmin has not yet acknowledged or addressed this concern in the latest release.
In a forum post, Garmin confirmed that Beta Version 28.01 is now being pushed to 50% of eligible smartwatch users, with a wider rollout expected soon. Those eager to install the update manually can do so by navigating to Menu -> System -> Software Update -> Check For Updates on their device.
Additional Fixes and Improvements in Beta Version 28.01
Alongside the music control fix, Garmin has made several refinements to enhance smartwatch performance and reliability. The update introduces:
- A legal disclaimer for storm alerts.
- Fixes for elevation alerts.
- Optimizations to improve notification loading speeds.
With Garmin indicating that this could be the final beta update in the current testing cycle, a full public release of Version 28.01 appears imminent. The company has yet to confirm an exact timeline for when all users will receive the stable update.
