Garmin has released the first stable software update for its Descent G2 watch-style dive computer, adding new security and health-tracking features alongside performance improvements.
Software version 23.09 introduces a Device Passcode function for added security, a sleep Breathing Variations tool to monitor respiratory patterns, and support for Connect IQ System 8. The update also adds notifications when pairing sensors via open ANT connections and the ability to view connection type information for paired devices.
The Descent G2, launched in February 2025, features a 1.2-inch AMOLED display and up to 10 days of battery life. Garmin said the update also optimizes the inductive button’s temperature compensation to reduce false inputs during cold-water dives.
In its release notes, the company confirmed fixes for issues affecting Dive Shortcuts, Pool Apnea STA training dives and heart rate broadcast functionality. “We’ve focused on improving both the reliability and the usability of the Descent G2 in real-world dive conditions,” Garmin said in a forum post.
The company noted that version 23.09 is currently rolling out to 20% of eligible Descent G2 units, with broader availability to follow. Users can manually check for the update through the device’s settings menu.
