Google Pixel Watch 5 FCC Filing Reveals Satellite Connectivity, UWB, and Wi-Fi 6 Ahead of Launch

The upcoming smartwatch has received FCC certification, confirming key wireless features as Google prepares for an expected August unveiling alongside the Pixel 11 lineup.

Google’s next-generation smartwatch is moving closer to launch after the Pixel Watch 5 appeared in filings with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), revealing several of its wireless capabilities ahead of the official announcement.

The certification follows an earlier listing with India’s Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and provides a clearer picture of the connectivity features users can expect when the smartwatch debuts later this year.

    Four Models Certified

The FCC documentation references four separate model numbers:

    • G25QD
    • G1XJ6
    • G0F3Y
    • GFW3R

Although Google has not confirmed the differences between them, the lineup is widely expected to mirror the current Pixel Watch strategy by offering two case sizes, each available in Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and LTE configurations.

Interestingly, every certified model includes an LTE modem in the regulatory documents. This could indicate that Google is standardizing hardware across the lineup, with cellular functionality potentially enabled or disabled through software depending on the version purchased.

    Wireless Features Remain Comprehensive

Beyond cellular support, the certification confirms that the Pixel Watch 5 will continue offering a broad range of modern connectivity options.

    Confirmed features include:

    • Wi-Fi 6 support on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks
    • Bluetooth connectivity
    • NFC for contactless payments
    • Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology
    • Satellite emergency communication support

The inclusion of UWB enables highly accurate device positioning, making it useful for locating compatible accessories, improving proximity-based interactions, and supporting digital car key functionality with vehicles that offer UWB compatibility.

    Satellite Emergency Capability Returns

The FCC listing also confirms compatibility with LTE NTN Band 23 and Band 255, allowing the Pixel Watch 5 to support satellite-based emergency communication.

Rather than serving as a replacement for traditional mobile connectivity, this feature is designed for situations where terrestrial cellular coverage is unavailable. In remote locations, users may still be able to initiate emergency communication through satellite networks, providing an additional layer of safety during outdoor activities or travel.

Google introduced similar emergency satellite functionality with the previous Pixel Watch generation, and its return suggests the company continues to prioritize personal safety features within the Wear OS ecosystem.

    Familiar Design, Potentially New Performance

While the regulatory filing focuses on radio hardware, previous leaks indicate the smartwatch’s exterior design will remain largely unchanged from its predecessor.

The existing Pixel Watch design has received praise for its minimalist appearance and improved repairability compared with many competing smartwatches. Maintaining a familiar design could allow Google to focus development efforts on internal hardware improvements instead of a complete redesign.

One of the most anticipated upgrades is the possible adoption of Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon Wear Elite processor. Although Google has not confirmed the chipset, a newer platform could deliver faster app performance, improved battery efficiency, enhanced AI processing, and smoother Wear OS operation.

Expected to Launch Alongside Pixel 11

Google is widely expected to introduce the Pixel Watch 5 during its annual hardware event in August 2026, where the smartwatch is likely to debut alongside the upcoming Pixel 11 smartphone family.

Until then, regulatory filings continue to provide early insight into Google’s wearable strategy. While the FCC certification does not reveal every new feature, it confirms that the Pixel Watch 5 will retain a comprehensive suite of wireless technologies, including Wi-Fi 6, NFC, UWB, LTE, and satellite emergency support, positioning it as another premium option in Google’s growing ecosystem of connected devices.
