Hannspree has launched the Lumo, a new Android tablet that uses a reflective LCD display designed to remain readable in bright sunlight, as manufacturers continue to explore alternatives to conventional backlit screens.
The company says the 7.8-inch display relies on reflected ambient light rather than a traditional backlight, combining elements of an e-book reader with those of a standard tablet. According to the product description, the screen is intended to be “perfectly readable even in the sun,” while an optional front light allows use in dark environments.

To support the reflective technology, Hannspree has opted for modest display specifications. The screen has a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and a 60Hz refresh rate. Battery capacity is limited to 3,000 mAh, though the company estimates up to 6.5 hours of use with the front light set to maximum brightness. The touchscreen can also be used with an optional pressure-sensitive stylus, positioning the device for handwritten notes.
The Lumo weighs about 250 grams (8.82 ounces), a result of its small battery, and is powered by MediaTek’s Helio G99 processor. Other features include a 5-megapixel front camera, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and Android 14 with support for Google services, based on an open-source build of the operating system.

The Hannspree Lumo is currently available through European retailers for €369, the company said, with additional specifications listed on its official product page.
