For some Instagram users, being seen online marked with a green dot is an uncomfortable thing. Generally, this green dot will be seen in Instagram's Direct Message (DM) feature.

How to hide Instagram online status via smartphone
- Go to your Instagram account
- Go to Instagram profile
- Click the vertical three-dot menu in the upper right corner
- Select “Settings”
- Select “Privacy”
- Scroll down until you find the “Activity Status” menu, click on the menu
- Then slide the toggle to the left to disable online status on Instagram
How to hide Instagram online status via PC
- Open your Instagram via browser
- Click the profile icon in the top right corner
- Select “Settings”
- Select “Privacy and Security”
- Click “Show Activity Status” the check will disappear and now there is no green dot in your DM
Please note, when you turn off Instagram activity status, you also can't find out other people's activity status or the green dot feature in Instagram Direct Messages (DM).
