JBL has introduced the Boombox 4, a new portable Bluetooth speaker that offers longer playback time and improved portability compared to its predecessor. The device is currently available in China at around $558, though no details have been shared on release in other markets.
The Boombox 4 weighs 5.89 kilograms, making it about 12% lighter than the previous model. Its dimensions are listed as 506.4 x 262.9 x 212.9 millimeters, with an integrated handle for easier transport. The company highlights its IP68 certification, ensuring protection against dust and water.
The speaker supports Bluetooth 5.4 and Auracast, with the option to play audio via USB-C. Inside, the device features two 5-inch subwoofers, two tweeters and three passive radiators, delivering up to 210 watts of output when plugged in and 180 watts on battery.
A 99 Wh built-in battery powers the unit. JBL says a new feature aimed at extending efficiency allows up to 34 hours of continuous playback. According to the company: “Thanks to its improved power system, the JBL Boombox 4 can deliver music for up to 34 hours while maintaining powerful output.”
The Boombox 4 can also provide up to 30 watts of power output through its charging function, enabling it to serve as a backup power source for other devices.
Given that earlier Boombox models have been sold widely, analysts expect the Boombox 4 will eventually reach global markets, though JBL has not yet confirmed an international release schedule.
