British audio company KEF has introduced the KEF Muo, a compact Bluetooth speaker designed to compete directly with Sonos’ Roam series, offering a waterproof design and extended battery life.
The Muo, measuring 8.5 x 3.2 x 2.3 inches, is slightly larger than Sonos’ Roam 2 but promises up to 24 hours of playback, twice the advertised runtime of its competitor. The device carries an IP67 rating, making it resistant to dust and water.
“The KEF Muo combines a particularly compact, completely waterproof case with a long battery life and allegedly high-quality sound,” the company said in its product announcement.
The speaker features a 20 mm tweeter and a 58 x 117 mm woofer, powered by a 10-watt and 30-watt amplifier combination. According to KEF, the unit can deliver sound from 43Hz to 20kHz at volumes reaching 90dB. Users can adjust audio settings through the KEF Connect app, pair two devices for stereo output, and use the speaker for hands-free smartphone calls.
However, the Muo lacks two features offered by the Sonos Roam 2. Wireless charging is not supported, and the speaker connects only via Bluetooth or USB-C, with no WiFi option. This prevents integration with AirPlay or multi-room audio setups.
