Like LG, Samsung will also release roll-screen OLED TV

There is a new report that reveals that Samsung Display may be planning to launch a new product that can rival one of its biggest competitors, LG. The new product in question is a TV with a rollable QD-OLED display panel, which LG has done first.

Sources close to the matter claim that Samsung is working on a new generation of QD-OLED panel technology. “The goal is to reduce the use of glass substrates from two to one,” which will then allow for a new rollable version.

Reporting from Gizmochina (16/4), the display unit of the company that developed this new type of panel technology implies that in the near future, Samsung Electronics will also soon launch a TV with a roll screen.

To date, the only commercially available TV with a rollable screen is the LG OLED Rollable RX series. This model was announced at CES 2019 and released on the market a year later. However, even though it is quite an interesting and innovative product, the 65-inch model is priced at USD 87,000. In other words, it is still too expensive to be mass produced or widely available.

So, it’s possible that the rollable TVs released by Samsung could be cheaper than LG’s currently available. However, given the price of QD-OLED TVs, it doesn’t look like such a model will be very affordable. For the time being, this news has not been directly confirmed by Samsung, so there may be more information in the future.
