What do you think of when you hear Chromebooks and Chrome OS? For most PC gamers, Google’s operating system embedded in this portable device is indeed more synonymous with teaching and learning activities.
Although it has so many functions that it achieves, but its affordable price does make it suitable for use by students and teachers. However, this image seems to be slowly changing. Reports say that after the announcement that was made two years ago, Steam is getting closer to being released on Chrome OS!
Together with Google’s intention to start marketing Chromebooks with higher specifications for gamers, they reportedly already have a definite schedule regarding the availability of Steam on Chrome OS.

The date has not been announced, but at least information about the list of the first Chromebooks that will support it is available. The Chromebooks are as follows:
- Volta – Acer Chromebook 514 (CB514-1H)
- Volet – Acer Chromebook 515
- Voxel – Acer Chromebook Spin 713 (CP713-3W)
- Delbin – ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5500)
- Drobit – ASUS Chromebook CX9 (CX9400)
- Elemi – HP Pro c640 G2 Chromebook
- Lindar – Unknown/unreleased Chromebook from Lenovo
Google also seems to have set a minimum specification for Chromebooks, which is to have at least an Intel 11th Gen i5 or i7 processor with a minimum RAM of 7 GB as a condition to be able to enjoy Steam there. These are of course high specs that will only be available on mid and high-end Chromebooks.
