Meta Expands Threads Live Chats With Translation, Co-Hosts and Moderation Features

New updates aim to strengthen real-time conversations as Threads broadens Live Chats access and prepares desktop support.

Meta has introduced a series of enhancements to Threads Live Chats, adding multilingual support, expanded moderation tools and broader creator access as the company continues strengthening its real-time conversation platform.

The latest update builds on the Live Chats feature introduced earlier this year, giving creators additional tools to manage discussions while making conversations more accessible to users worldwide.

Live Chats Expand Beyond Early Creators

Meta is extending the ability to launch Live Chats to all Community Champions—users recognized for maintaining active discussions, consistently contributing content and building strong engagement within their communities.

The broader rollout is intended to increase the number of live discussions across Threads while encouraging more creators to host interactive conversations.

According to Meta, hundreds of Live Chats are already taking place nearly every day, attracting thousands of participants across the platform.

    Built-In Translation Improves Global Participation

One of the most significant additions is automatic translation support, allowing users speaking different languages to participate more easily in the same conversation.

The feature reduces language barriers during live discussions, enabling creators to reach more international audiences without requiring separate language-specific chat sessions.

As Threads continues expanding globally, multilingual communication is expected to become an increasingly important component of community engagement.

New Tools Give Hosts Greater Control

Meta has also introduced several moderation features designed to simplify Live Chat management.

Hosts can now invite up to three co-hosts, allowing multiple people to help moderate discussions, respond to participants or contribute as guest speakers during conversations.

The update also enables hosts to remove messages for all participants, providing stronger moderation capabilities during active chats.

In addition, Threads is testing visual enhancements that make host messages more prominent, helping important announcements and guidance remain visible in busy conversations.

    Strengthening Real-Time Engagement

Live Chats support text messages alongside photos, videos, hyperlinks and emoji reactions.

Up to 150 participants can actively contribute messages during each session. Once that limit is reached, additional users can continue following the discussion in spectator mode, where they can react to messages and participate in polls without posting new comments.

The feature represents Meta’s effort to position Threads as a stronger destination for live social interaction, an area traditionally dominated by competing platforms.

    Desktop Support Coming Next

Meta confirmed that desktop support for Live Chats is currently under development, alongside a forthcoming pinned message feature requested by creators.

The additions complement a broader expansion of Threads over the past year, which has included direct messaging, desktop messaging, enhanced search capabilities and other features designed to improve real-time communication.

Earlier this month, Threads surpassed 500 million monthly active users, reflecting continued growth as Meta expands the platform’s functionality and strengthens its position in the competitive social media landscape.
