Meta has released a long-awaited native version of Instagram for Apple’s iPad, marking the first time the social media platform has been optimized for the larger screen since the tablet debuted in 2010.
The new app puts Reels at the center of the experience, positioning short videos as the main way users discover and share content. Stories are displayed above, while the navigation menu has been moved to the left side for easier access.
“It’s finally here!” Meta said in its announcement, acknowledging the delay after years of requests from users.
Among the new features is a Following tab that separates accounts into three categories: All, Friends, and Latest. The design also supports multitasking elements, such as showing comments alongside videos without shrinking playback. Notifications and messages are now easier to manage thanks to a split layout.
The update follows Meta’s recent decision to expand iPad support for WhatsApp, reflecting the company’s shift toward enhancing big-screen experiences across its apps.
The redesigned Instagram app is now rolling out worldwide through Apple’s App Store.
