Capcom has revealed Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, the next entry in its turn-based RPG spin-off series. The game is set to launch in 2026 across the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC via Steam.
The announcement was made during the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase on July 31, marking the franchise’s return after a four-year break. Capcom aims to build on the success of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, which sold over 2 million units by 2025.
The third installment introduces a darker tone, centered around a conflict sparked by the birth of twin Rathalos dragons. Players will explore the kingdoms of Vermeil and Azuria as Azuria’s heir, the only known Rathalos Rider.
Joining the protagonist is Elanor, Vermeil’s princess and political hostage, who partners with her Monstie, Anjanth. The two characters team up to investigate a mysterious “crystal encroachment” threatening the world.
Capcom said, “Monster Hunter Stories 3 features a contrasting, vibrant, and dark atmosphere,” highlighting its departure from earlier entries’ lighter tone. The company has not confirmed an exact release date but promised additional details soon.
The announcement follows mixed performance of Monster Hunter Wilds, which saw strong early sales but faced PC-related issues in Q2 2025. Still, the franchise remains one of Capcom’s top global performers.
