A new Star Wars racing game was announced at The Game Awards, confirming earlier speculation that the franchise would revisit its racing roots with a modern release.
Interest in a potential racing title had grown in the weeks leading up to the event after online leaks suggested an upcoming Star Wars game would focus on high-speed competition. Those reports raised expectations of a project inspired by earlier racing titles, particularly the 1999 release Star Wars Episode I: Racer.

That game, developed by LucasArts, recreated the podracing scenes from The Phantom Menace and achieved commercial success, later receiving updated versions on modern platforms. Its popularity helped establish racing as a recurring, if secondary, feature across the franchise’s video game catalogue.
Over the years, Star Wars has explored several racing formats, including Star Wars Racer Revenge on the PlayStation 2 and the combat-focused kart title Super Bombad Racing. Elements of racing have also appeared as side activities in broader role-playing and action games set in the Star Wars universe.
The announcement of the new racing title came as fans also looked for updates on other major projects, including the long-awaited Knights of the Old Republic remake, which did not appear at the show. Instead, attention is now turning to how the newly revealed racing game will fit into the franchise’s expanding slate of video game releases.
