Nintendo reported robust sales figures for its Switch 2 console, with 5.82 million units sold in June alone, marking the company’s fastest-selling handheld device to date. The strong debut is further supported by software performance, particularly the bundled launch title Mario Kart World, which sold 5.63 million copies by the end of the same month.
According to the company’s financial results for Q1 of fiscal year 2025, the Switch 2 achieved notable early momentum, selling 3.5 million units in the first four days following its June 5 launch. This positions the console ahead of competitors during similar launch windows, surpassing the PlayStation 5’s early sales milestones.
Software titles for the new hardware platform also posted solid performance, with 8.67 million units sold in total in the first month. With Mario Kart comprising the bulk of those sales, consumer interest in Nintendo’s key franchises remains high.
The original Switch hardware continues to generate demand, adding another 0.98 million units in sales during the quarter. Combined, this brings total lifetime Switch hardware sales to 153.1 million units, placing it just behind the Nintendo DS’s all-time record of 154 million.
Nintendo’s net sales rose to ¥572 billion ($3.8 billion), a 132% year-on-year increase. Operating profit also climbed by 4.4% to ¥56.8 billion ($377 million), though ordinary profit declined 15.6% to ¥95.8 billion ($636 million), reflecting cost pressures and currency factors.
Despite the rapid pace of initial sales, Nintendo maintained its full-year forecast of 15 million Switch 2 units sold by March 2026. The company has already achieved 40% of that target in a single month, and the approaching holiday season could accelerate that trajectory.
