PayPal Inc. said on Tuesday it will integrate the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) to expand payments and commerce in ChatGPT, allowing millions of users to make instant purchases through PayPal’s platform. The collaboration with OpenAI aims to connect PayPal’s global merchant network to ChatGPT, enabling transactions for small businesses and major brands alike.
The integration will introduce PayPal’s Instant Checkout, offering funding options that include bank accounts, balances, and cards. It will also extend PayPal’s buyer and seller protections and post-purchase services such as order tracking and dispute resolution. PayPal will support OpenAI Instant Checkout through its delegated payments API, handling card payment processing on behalf of merchants.
According to the company, the move is intended to “help people go from chat to checkout in just a few taps,” reflecting its goal of merging conversational AI with streamlined commerce. The update will allow ChatGPT users to discover and purchase products directly within the chatbot interface, powered by PayPal’s payment infrastructure.
Starting in 2026, ACP will connect product catalogs from PayPal’s merchant network—including retailers across fashion, beauty, home improvement, and electronics—through a scalable and compliant system that eliminates the need for separate integrations. The setup will route payments, validate transactions, and manage orchestration automatically.
In addition to its commerce expansion, PayPal said it is broadening its AI strategy with OpenAI, scaling ChatGPT Enterprise access to more than 24,000 employees. The company also plans to leverage OpenAI’s APIs and Codex tools to accelerate product development and enhance customer experiences across its ecosystem.
