Japanese game developer Level-5 has delayed the release of Professor Layton and the New World of Steam until 2026, pushing back one of its most anticipated titles. The puzzle adventure game was originally scheduled to arrive in 2025 for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The company said the decision was made to allow more time to refine the title. “Although the release was originally scheduled for 2025, in order to deliver the game in the best possible form, the launch has been rescheduled for 2026,” Level-5 said in a statement, apologizing to fans awaiting the franchise’s return.
The new entry was last showcased at the Tokyo Game Show in 2025 with a trailer that rekindled interest in the long-running series. The previous installment, Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, launched in 2013.
While the delay has disappointed fans, Level-5 emphasized that the move is intended to ensure quality and meet expectations. The company has not provided a specific launch window in 2026, and further updates are expected in the coming months.
