Rockstar Games’ decision to delay Grand Theft Auto 6 to November 2026 has renewed discussion around the scale of the long-awaited title, with claims that the developer is pursuing features that could keep the game ahead of competitors for years. The studio says it is extending development to further refine the release, echoing the long-term support seen with Grand Theft Auto V.
An industry insider who interviews game developers, Reece Reilly, has suggested that the project incorporates ambitions far beyond current industry standards. The original article stated that Reilly “claimed last week that they have heard of some ‘super ambitious’ things about GTA 6 that will place it in a class of its own,” adding that it may take rival studios 15 to 20 years to match what Rockstar is building.
While the specific features remain undisclosed, expectations centre on a highly detailed open world significantly larger and more dynamic than previous entries. The extent of those improvements will not be clear until the game is released, and Rockstar has yet to detail plans for a future version of GTA Online.
GTA V launched in 2013, with GTA Online arriving a month later. More than a decade on, the online title continues to receive updates and retains an active player base, shaping expectations for what Rockstar might deliver with its successor.

The latest delay marks the second time GTA 6 has been pushed back, and it is uncertain whether the new timeline will hold. A new trailer had been widely anticipated earlier this month, but the only update was the announcement of the revised schedule. According to one analyst, the postponement was seen as a strategic move that could ultimately increase revenue once the game launches.
