Silent Hill f, released on Sept. 25, 2025, has quickly attracted a community of modders despite only recently launching. One of the most notable modifications alters a defining element of the franchise: the fog.

The game transports players to 1960s Japan, maintaining several familiar mechanics from earlier titles, including the oppressive mist that conceals threats and intensifies suspense. “This is particularly the case with the fog, which adds a heavy and oppressive atmosphere for players and also hides many surprises,” the official description notes.

A new fan-made modification, available for free on Nexus Mods under the name “No Fog,” removes this effect entirely. The change reveals detailed environments and the artistic direction chosen by developers, though it also significantly reduces the game’s fear factor.

The mod is not recommended for first-time players, as the fog plays a central role in Silent Hill’s signature atmosphere. However, those who have completed the main story may find it offers a new way to experience the game’s world.

Silent Hill f marks the first time the series’ narrative is set outside the United States. While many mechanics remain intact, the modding community is already experimenting with ways to reshape how players interact with the survival horror title.
