Snapchat stops developing its ‘selfie drone’

Snap Inc, the parent company of social media Snapchat, has reportedly stopped production of a ‘selfie drone’ called Snapchat Pixy. In fact, this device is one of the latest products launched by the company in April 2022.

Approximately four months after its release, Snap finally decided to discontinue production of the Snapchat Pixy. This means that the company has given up on the development of the selfie drone.

This news was also confirmed by Snap CEO, Evan Spiegel when answering one of his employees’ questions. Based on a report by The Wall Street Journal, as quoted from Engadget (19/8), Spiegel said that Snap would stop continuing work on Pixy.

Furthermore, Snap is currently said to be reorganizing their company’s resources. This is also what ultimately led to the decision that the Snapchat Pixy ‘drone selfie’ would not be developed further.

For information, Snapchat Pixy has the ability to take selfies like a drone in a simpler form. Users can then send the photos to their smartphones via the Snapchat application they have.

Since it was first launched, this product has been marketed on a limited basis to the United States and France. The Snap company itself has a price tag of around $250.

Although development has been discontinued, currently Snapchat Pixy can be found on Snap’s Pixy.com sales site. The sale of this product takes place as long as the product is still available. This implies that Snap will only sell until stock runs out and will not reproduce the product for the future.
