Spotify has acknowledged a technical issue that caused some Premium subscribers to hear ads despite paying for an ad-free experience.

The company confirmed the problem in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, directing users to its Community website, where reports of the issue have been surfacing over the past four weeks.

    Issue and Response

Spotify clarified to TechCrunch that this latest issue is separate from a previously reported bug and affected only a small number of users. The company said it has deployed a fix, though its X account has yet to confirm its release. In the meantime, Spotify support continues to suggest temporary workarounds, such as logging out and back in, though some users report these solutions are ineffective.

The problem affected Premium users across mobile, desktop, and web platforms. Frustrated subscribers noted that they ensured their payment information was up to date before reporting the issue, with some demanding refunds for not receiving the ad-free experience they paid for.

    Spotify’s Upcoming Subscription Plans

The issue comes as Spotify prepares to launch new subscription tiers, including a “superfan” option offering exclusive music and video content. Meanwhile, competitor YouTube recently introduced a more affordable Premium Lite plan for $7.99 per month, providing ad-free videos but excluding YouTube Music, background play, and downloads.
