Tesla has introduced its first solar panel modules assembled in the United States, expanding its home energy business to include in-house electricity generation alongside storage and inverters.

The panels are manufactured at Tesla’s Buffalo, New York, facility, which already produces the company’s Solar Roof and Supercharger components. Previously, Tesla sourced solar panels from third-party manufacturers while concentrating its own development on energy storage and power management products.

Tesla says the new panels are designed to simplify and speed up installation by using the frame as a mounting rail, removing the need for traditional rails and clamps and reducing roof drilling. The company estimates this design can cut installation time by about one-third.

The panels also incorporate multiple power generation zones, intended to maintain higher output when parts of the panel are shaded by rooftop features such as vents or chimneys. Tesla says this approach improves overall energy production compared with conventional panels.

The solar modules are available in 415-watt and 420-watt versions with an efficiency of about 20.5% and can be purchased as part of a full Tesla home energy system or separately. The launch comes as U.S. residential and commercial solar incentives are being scaled back, with Tesla aiming to lower costs and strengthen its position in the home energy market.
