TikTok has just introduced a new AI generator in its short video app. This simple AI generator is capable of converting the text typed by the user into a suitable image as the background in their video.

Reporting from Engadget (16/8), this new AI generator launched by ByteDance’s social media allows users to turn text descriptions on their accounts into works of art. Images generated by AI generators can be used as video backgrounds and are potentially a useful feature for content creators.

The feature generated from TikTok’s simple generator is called the ‘AI Green Screen’ effect. This effect can be accessed via the short video app’s camera screen. Based on the latest information, the ‘AI Green Screen’ effect has been used by many application users and is one of the most popular effects today.

Information about the AI generator on TikTok’s social media was first reported by The Verge. Based on their report, this ‘AI Green Screen’ effect has rolled out for applications on Android and iOS.

Furthermore, TikTok’s AI generator is considered quite basic and simple when compared to other text-to-image models. Because this feature is only able to create photorealistic images that tend to be abstract.

In comparison, other models, such as the DALL-E 2 OpenAI, are said to be capable of producing complex and coherent photorealistic images and illustrations. So that the resulting image will look like it was painted by humans.

Seeing this, The Verge surmises, it seems that TikTok is deliberately just launching a simple AI generator for their app. The reason is that more sophisticated models will require larger and more expensive computational data. So it requires a lot of resources to be implemented by the company.

Also, with the TikTok app having more than a billion users globally, more sophisticated AI generators can be unsettling. The reason is, the system is allegedly able to produce images that are close to perfect with the given keywords.

For example, when testing the model’s ability to generate nudity and gore images, the AI generator in TikTok will fail to generate explicit images according to the keywords. So as to avoid content that is disturbing and does not comply with existing rules.

Through this launch, TikTok is claimed to be able to bring the ‘AI Green Screen’ effect to be more accessible to their users. This shows how quickly text-to-image technology has become one of the mainstream technologies that can be easily obtained by everyone.
