Torchlight II, the 2012 action role-playing game from Runic Games and published by Arc Games, is currently discounted by 80% on Steam, lowering its price from about $20 to $3.99. The promotion runs until September 1, according to Steam’s store listing.
The game, released more than a decade ago, continues to attract fans of classic action RPGs with its focus on character customization and fast-paced combat. Featuring four distinct classes and a flexible skill system, Torchlight II offers more freedom in building characters than many titles in the genre. Pets accompany players into battle and can sell items automatically, while the game world includes dynamic weather and a day-night cycle.
German gaming outlet GameStar described the title as something of an “anti-Diablo,” noting that while Blizzard’s franchise favors accessibility, Torchlight II allows players to allocate attributes and skills with fewer restrictions. This, the publication said, enables “highly personalized builds and a deeper level of strategic customization.”
Reception has remained positive over the years. On Steam, the game holds a 92% approval rating from more than 44,500 reviews. On Metacritic, critics awarded it a score of 88, with users rating it at 8.4. GameStar praised the flow of gameplay and the challenge at higher difficulties but pointed to underwhelming presentation and conventional quest design as drawbacks.
The current discount matches Torchlight II’s lowest historical price, according to data from SteamDB. While the promotion offers strong value, the game has previously been available at the same rate during past sales.
