Toyota Motor Corp and its partners on Monday unveiled a battery-electric version of the Pixis Van, expanding electrified options for Japan’s commercial vehicle market as companies seek cleaner solutions for last-mile deliveries.

The new Pixis Van BEV is designed to maintain the model’s existing practicality, including a large cargo area and easy loading, while offering quieter and smoother driving performance typical of electric vehicles. The model has a cruising range of 257 km, which the company says is sufficient to cover a full day of deliveries or business use.

“The new BEV model aims to fully meet customer needs by retaining its excellent usability while delivering powerful, smooth, and quiet driving performance,” the company said in the press release.

The electric system was jointly developed by Suzuki Motor Corp, Daihatsu Motor Co and Toyota, combining Suzuki and Daihatsu’s experience in kei vehicle manufacturing with Toyota’s electrification technology. Kei commercial vehicles, known for their compact size, play a central role in Japan’s logistics sector by navigating narrow streets and supporting last-mile transport.

According to the company, kei commercial vehicles account for about 60% of Japan’s total commercial vehicle fleet as of September 2025, based on the number of vehicles owned. Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corp (CJPT) also participated in the planning to optimize specifications for logistics efficiency.

Toyota said it would continue working with partners to promote practical approaches toward carbon neutrality through the development and deployment of sustainable transportation solutions.
