Ubisoft announced The Division 2: Survivors at Gamescom 2025, describing it as a “survival extraction experience” that builds on the third-person shooter released in 2019. The game, which is rumored to launch in 2026, will be led by creative director Magnus Jansen, who oversaw the franchise’s original installment.

Jansen said the project will expand beyond a remake, noting that the team is “doing cool, new things” with the survival-focused gameplay. Ubisoft has shared early concept art depicting a snow-covered Washington, D.C., but has yet to provide detailed features as the title remains in early development.

Executive Producer Julian Gerighty said the studio intends to involve players closely in the development process, highlighting a new “Elite Task Force” program designed to give committed fans direct input. Ubisoft is promoting the initiative as part of its goal of maintaining clear communication and transparency with the community.

The announcement follows Ubisoft’s cancellation of The Division Heartland earlier in 2024, which had been positioned as a free-to-play spinoff. Chief Financial Officer Frederick Duget at the time called the move “a difficult but necessary and important decision.”

Unlike Heartland, Survivors is being developed as part of The Division 2 and forms part of Ubisoft’s ongoing content roadmap, which continues to add expansions and seasonal updates to the title. While the release date remains unconfirmed, the publisher said community involvement will play a central role in shaping the game’s direction.
