Volkswagen on Tuesday outlined a new interior architecture and software platform that will debut with the all-new ID. Polo, marking a shift toward more tactile controls and a less touchscreen-focused approach in its electric vehicles.

The automaker said the ID. Polo will be the first production model to adopt its latest cockpit design, featuring clean horizontal lines, higher-quality materials and a renewed emphasis on physical buttons. Volkswagen said the redesign is intended to enhance comfort and usability, reflecting feedback that fully touchscreen-based interiors can be less intuitive for drivers.

According to Volkswagen, the interior follows its new “Pure Positive” design language, aiming to create a welcoming and familiar atmosphere in the small electric car segment. Fabric-covered surfaces on the dashboard and doors, along with clearly defined buttons and controls, are designed to give the ID. Polo a more premium feel aligned with larger vehicle classes.

The cockpit includes two large displays positioned along a single line of sight: a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a nearly 13-inch central infotainment screen. Physical buttons for climate control and hazard lights are placed below the main display, while a redesigned multi-function steering wheel and a rotary audio controller provide direct access to key functions.
